HappyNew.Day is a vessel. Vessels are made to be poured into. The phrase “Happy new day” doesn't belong to us. The liturgy that sits underneath this site does, but it's licensed so you can take it, change it, and run your own version — in your language, your tradition, your town, your church, your group chat, your school.

The license

The text of the liturgy is CC BY-SA 4.0. You can use it commercially. You can change it. We ask two things:

• Credit. Mention “based on the happynew.day liturgy” somewhere visible — a footer, a colophon, an About page.
• Share-alike. If you publish your liturgy, use the same license, so the commons keeps growing rather than being enclosed.

The code that runs this site is MIT-licensed and you're welcome to that too.

One exception: neither license grants you the right to use the HappyNew.Day name or brand for your own product, service, community, or publication. The liturgy is open. The brand is not. See TRADEMARKS.md for what is and isn't permitted.

A chapter, briefly

A “chapter” is anything from a single page on your own site to a full local community gathering once a month. We don't police the format. The minimum is: you greet the day in the spirit of the vessel, and you make the practice available to others on its own terms.

A few good shapes

• A translated landing page in your first language, with a daily greeting drawn from a translated liturgy.
• A printed pamphlet of seven greetings — one for each day of the week — for a hospice, a recovery group, or a school.
• A weekly meeting in a borrowed room. One person reads the day's greeting. Anyone who wants to declares. Anyone who wants to releases. Tea and silence. Forty minutes.
• A version for a specific community — new parents, the newly sober, displaced people, palliative-care nurses — with greetings that meet that community where it is.
